How to Smoke a THCA Cigar (It Takes About Twenty Minutes, Not Three Hours)

Nearly every guide to how to smoke a THCA cigar was written about a different object than the one in your hand. Search the phrase and you get the cannagar: a mold-pressed, three-to-five-gram cylinder built around a wooden skewer and described everywhere as a forty-five-minute to three-hour commitment. That is a real product. It is not what we make, and if you follow those instructions with an El Blunto you will spend five minutes looking for a skewer that was never there.

Here is the guide for the cigar we actually sell — a hand-finished 1.75 g or 2 g THCA cigar with a glass tip or a FlavorCore™ terpene tip, which burns in roughly the time it takes to drink a coffee.

What you are actually holding

Three differences matter before you light anything.

There is no skewer. A mold-pressed cannagar is packed around a dowel that gets pulled out to leave an airflow channel. Ours is finished around its tip, so the draw is built in.

There is no cap. Tobacco cigars are closed at the head with a disc of leaf that has to be cut before air will move. Ours is open at the tip.

The tip is the feature. A glass tip is a reusable filter that keeps the draw cool. A FlavorCore™ tip holds a sealed bead of cannabis-derived terpenes you break yourself, mid-session. Which one you have changes step two entirely.

Do you cut the cap on a cannabis cigar?

No. This is the most common mistake carried over from tobacco, so plainly: do not take a cutter to a THCA cigar. There is no cap to remove, the draw is already open, and on a glass tip you are putting a guillotine to borosilicate.

If you have smoked tobacco cigars for years the urge to cut something is real. Resist it. The only preparation an El Blunto needs is a light — and, on a FlavorCore tip, a squeeze.

The FlavorCore tip: squeeze and pop

The bead sits inside the tip. Pinch the tip firmly between thumb and forefinger until you feel and hear it give — that is the pop. The terpenes release into the airway and flavour the smoke from that point forward.

Two practical notes the packaging does not have room for:

  • You choose when. Pop it before you light and the whole cigar carries the profile. Pop it halfway and you get two distinct halves out of one cigar — the more interesting way to smoke a 2 g Diamond Infused El Blunto.
  • Nothing goes wrong if you never pop it. An unpopped FlavorCore smokes like an ordinary tipped cigar. It is an option, not a step.

If you would rather not make that decision, the glass-tip El Blunto in Birkin Dream has no bead and no timing question.

How to light a THCA cigar

Lighting is where cigar technique genuinely transfers. The goal is an even ring across the whole foot, because a cigar this densely packed will canoe — burn up one side — if you light it lopsided, and a canoeing cigar is very hard to rescue.

  1. Use a torch or a soft flame, not a paper match. A single-jet butane torch is ideal; a standard lighter works if you are patient.
  2. Toast first, at a distance. Hold the foot just above the flame, not in it, and rotate for ten to fifteen seconds until the edge glows all the way around. Do not draw yet.
  3. Then draw. Two or three short pulls with the flame still near the foot, rotating as you go.
  4. Check the ring. Blow gently across the lit end; it should glow evenly. A dark patch is a five-second fix now and a lost cigar ten minutes from now.

Cannagar guides call for thirty seconds or more of torching here. That is right for a five-gram mold-pressed cylinder in multiple cured leaves. On a 1.75 g cigar it scorches the wrap and the first third tastes burnt.

How long does a THCA cigar last?

The category's rule of thumb is ten to fifteen minutes of burn per gram, and its own published numbers hold roughly to it: a one-gram cigar up to half an hour, a three-gram at forty-five to ninety minutes, five grams and up past two hours.

Run that against what we make:

  1. El Bluntito, 0.75 g — roughly eight to fifteen minutes.
  2. El Blunto, 1.75 g — roughly eighteen to thirty minutes.
  3. El Blunto Diamond Infused, 2 g — roughly twenty to thirty-five minutes; infusion burns a little faster, not slower.

That is the real argument for this format and almost nobody in the category makes it: the cigar experience without surrendering your evening to it. Most hemp cigars on the market start at three grams and climb to fourteen. Ours is built for a session you can finish, which is why it is what we hand to people trying a cannabis cigar for the first time. How to smoke a THCA cigar: pace, inhalation and ash

Pace. Roughly one draw a minute. A cigar this tight wants to be left alone between pulls; chain-drawing overheats the wrap and turns the smoke harsh.

Inhalation — the honest answer. Tobacco-cigar etiquette says never inhale; cannabis is not tobacco and most people do. Neither answer is wrong. The reason cigar smokers do not is that the smoke volume off a cigar is much larger than off a cigarette. Start with a smaller draw than you think you need and adjust — guidance about comfort, not about effect.

Ash. Let it build. A column of ash insulates the coal and keeps the burn even; knocking it off after every pull makes the cigar run hot. Tap gently at about an inch, or sooner if you see a crack.

Putting it out, and relighting

You do not have to finish it. Set it in an ashtray and leave it — no crushing, no water. A cigar left alone goes out on its own in a minute or two, and crushing it packs ash into the airway and ruins the draw for later.

To relight, knock off the dead ash and any charred wrap at the foot, then toast and light exactly as before. The second light is always a little sharper than the first, and relighting within a day or two beats waiting a week.

Which raises the storage question. A partly smoked cigar dries out faster than an intact one because the foot is open, so put it back in its tube and keep it somewhere dark. If you are holding more than you will smoke in a month, do pre-rolls need a humidor covers the hardware and the humidity numbers, and do THCA pre-rolls expire covers what degrades over time and how fast.

The short version

  • No skewer. No cap. Nothing to cut.
  • FlavorCore: squeeze and pop whenever you like, or never.
  • Toast the foot ten to fifteen seconds, then light, then check the ring.
  • About one draw a minute; let the ash build to an inch.
  • Twenty minutes, not three hours.
